The Human Rights Defenders Network Sierra Leone (HRDN-SL) is a coalition of civil society organizations and individuals working in the field of human rights with specific focus on defending human rights defenders.
The Human Rights Defenders Network has been following the recent development in relation to the alleged rape involving a 5 years old girl in the country and believes that the Ministry of Social Welfare Gender and Children’s Affairs (MSWGCA) has the primary responsibility to promote and protect women and children especially the most vulnerable
(Geneva) - States should use the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) to urge Sierra Leone to repeal legislation restricting the activities of human rights defenders (HRDs) and develop and implement a law for their protection.
The Human Rights Defenders Network -Sierra Leone (HRDN-SL) which is a coalition of human rights civil society organizations working towards promoting and protecting human rights, was established as a local chapter upon the inspiration and support of the West Africa Human Rights Defenders Network (WAHRDN) - Togo and International Service for Human Rights (ISHR) - Geneva.
As a local chapter, we promote the participation of civil society organizations to analyze and evaluate human rights issues for effective and strategic advocacy, campaign and lobby approach match with transparency and accountability.
